Two of the most common questions we are asked at Wellable are whether or not Apple Health is a game changer for corporate wellness and if Wellable integrates with Apple Health. In regard to the latter, the answer is yes; users can have the step data from their Apple Health app automatically sync with their Wellable account. The former question is a little trickier to answer.

health-app-iconIn short, Apple Health is not a game changer for corporate wellness. Neither is Google Fit. Both of these are evident by their usage and awareness metrics. That being said, the well-publicized announcement of Apple Health and it being pre-installed on iPhone devices helped bring digital health and wellness to the mainstream. Millions of people were exposed to new apps and started tracking their activity because of Apple Health, and the impact it has on millions of individuals across the world cannot be understated.

So why is Apple Health not a game changer? Apple Health is a consumer-centric product, which means it does not need to accommodate for an entire population. For example, Fitbit does not integrate with Apple Health or Google Fit, and as the leading wearable tracker, Fitbit is a must have for employers. Also, Apple Health and Google Fit are only available on iPhone and Android devices, respectively. These limitations make Apple Health and Google Fit poor choices for corporate wellness programs.

However, wellness program coordinators must not ignore their employees that currently utilize Apple Health and Google Fit. By adopting solutions that their employees already use, such as Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit, and more, employers can optimize their wellness program engagement. Accommodating for consumer preferences is critical when incorporating wellness technology into corporate wellness programs.
