According to a new report from the Pew Research Center, almost two-thirds (64%) of U.S. adults own a smartphone. That’s up from 58% in early 2014. The survey data also confirms that smartphone ownership is still higher among younger adults as well as those with higher income and education levels.

PI_2015-04-01_smartphones_03Of all the uses Pew asked respondents in its survey, looking up health information about a particular condition was the most common thing smartphone owners did with their devices in the past year. The survey showed that 62% of smartphone owners had used their phone in the past year to look up information about a health condition. This is particularly interesting, especially when thinking about the best technologies to leverage in a community or employer wellness program. Americans are increasing their adoption of smartphones and already utilize it for health and wellness more than any other specific use case.
Pew’s recent report is based on a number of surveys, including a telephone survey of more than 2,000 people conducted last December and a web and mail survey of more than 3,000 people conducted in October 2014.
