Study: 19M Fitness Wearables In Use Today, To Triple By 2018
Estimated reading time: 1 minutes
According to a new report from Juniper Research, about 19 million wearable fitness devices are currently in use worldwide, and that number is expected to more than triple to 70 million by 2018. Juniper predicts that market will continue to be dominated by designated fitness devices, but that smartwatches with fitness capabilities will gradually begin to eat away at the market as time goes on.
The wide range of fitness devices highlights the importance of consumer choice and BYOD wellness for employer wellness programs. Employees are adopting these technologies on their own, but since the specific type of devices will vary amongst employees, employers need to embrace all technologies and allow their employees to choose which device is best for them. This strategy will be more cost efficient and lead to better results.
