Time Spent In Health and Fitness Apps Up 51% Over Last Year

A new study shows that time spent in health and fitness apps has increased 51% over the past year, which is the second highest increase for all app categories. The study was based on data from Localytics’ customer base, which includes 28,000 applications installed across 1.5 billion devices. For these findings, which cover August 2013 to August 2014, the company says it multiplied the average sessions per user in app by the average session length across all apps, and then broke it down by category. This is important because it highlights that employers should embrace the technologies that their employees are already using. Proprietary apps and devices by wellness vendors do not embrace the choices and preferences that employees need to stay engaged in a wellness program.
